Posted on 11 Dec 2009 by PCW WINNIPEG, MB- Premier Championship Wrestling will kick off 2010 with New Years Knockout: Return Of The King, featuring multiple-time former World Heavyweight Champion "King of Old School" Steve Corino! The event takes place Thursday January 21st at Dylans On Pembina. TIckets are only $15, on sale now through any PCW Superstar. The announcement of the imminent return of PCW's most popular import talent was met with raucous enthusiasm from the crowd at Dylans this past Thursday night. It was a shocking scenario as "Showtime" Robby Royce stunned the Alliance of Defiance with news that he had gone outside the local wrestling community in choosing a partner to face "Outlaw" Adam Knight & Anderson Tyson Moore at New Years Knockout! Over the course of nearly a decade, Royce and Corino have engaged in one of the most thrilling feuds of all time, spanning many years and multiple promotions. On April 21st 2001, Royce beat Corino to capture the NWA North American Heavyweight Championship. Only a few days later, Corino would respond by winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. In 2005, Corino and Royce met again, this time in PCW. On August 4th, "The King of Old School" beat Royce in a very bloody AWA World Heavyweight Championship match. In December of that same year, they would meet again in a Triple Threat match that included Rawskillz. The contest featured several titles as Corino was still AWA World Heavyweight Champion while Royce was the PCW, TRCW & ICW Heavyweight Champion and Skillz was the NWA Canadian X Division Champion. Rawskillz merged several of the titles by virtue of his victory. Though Royce's announcement came as a shock to many people, upon further reflection his choice of partner makes sense. Both men have repeatedly publicly expressed their immense respect for one another over the years and the very personal nature of the conflict between Royce and the AOD would seem to lend itself to him choosing as his partner someone he knows all too well is a ferocious fighter. Corino has been one of the most decorated men of the past decade, becoming the only person to have ever hold the ECW, NWA & AWA World Heavyweight Championships. His resume is impressive and extensive as Corino has been much sought-after all over the world. He has regularly competed in Japan for several promotions as well as Peurto Rico, TNA and Ring of Honor. His incredibly violent and bloody feud with "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes in ECW has been one of the most fondly remembered programs in their history, the stuff of legend. The rare combination of exceptional talent, desire and a willingness to put his body on the line makes Corino the perfect partner for Royce. The sudden but explosive shattering of Team Impact, the most lauded and dominant tag team in central Canadian wrestling history has already resulted in extreme violence and blood shed. The AOD fired the first shot in the war at the conclusion of PCW's Hellbound in October when Anderson Tyson Moore super-kicked his long-time friend and partner Royce in the side of the head. ATM and his manager "The Illustrious" Mr Brooks continued their vicious attack, beating on the prone Royce with a steel chain, leaving him battered and bloody. At Season's Beatings, in one of the most disturbing and despicable scenes ever, the AOD declared the career of Robby Royce to be dead. Royce disagreed vowing they hadn't seen the last of him on that night as he would challenge PCW & PWG Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega in the main event. The AOD got a glimpse of Royce a lot sooner than they expected. As Adam Knight defended his PCW Canadian Championship against "Average" Joe Dixon, Royce, tired of Brooks' constant distractions, snuck into the ring and blasted Knight with the title belt. That leveled the playing field and the two big men continued their titanic struggle with Dixon eventually hitting his "Above Average" Frog Splash for the victory. An irate Knight blamed Royce. But the now "pissed-off pitbull" was not done there. In the next contest, ATM faced the very popular rookie Sir Bradley Charles. The Storm Academy graduate continued the impressive start to his career with a highly competitive and athletic effort. But once again, Royce sought revenge. Though officials managed to keep him at bay, SBC was savvy enough to capitalize on the distraction to roll ATM up for his first career victory! Prior to the start of the main event, Commissioner Chris Stevens acknowledged that things were getting out of control with the AOD, among others, creating a sense of carnage and havok at Season's Beatings. He announced that the fans had paid to see a Match of the Year candidate in the main event, and he was going to ensure they got what they wanted. He informed the locker room that if anyone involved themselves in the match, they would be fired. The announcement didn't stop the enraged Knight, ATM and Brooks from keeping a very close eye on the match, but it did prevent any interference as Royce and Omega reignited one of the most acclaimed feuds in Canadian wrestling history. Kenny and Royce put forth an incredible effort, displaying their exceptional skills for all to see. Without any doubt, they proved to be by far the two most talented and gifted wrestlers in the country. It was Kenny's first match back in PCW since adding the PWG World Heavyweight Championship to his resume and "The World's Own" looked every bit the hottest wrestling sensation on the planet. Often admitting they brought out the best in each other, the contest proved no different than their past MOTY offerings. Royce certainly rose to the challenge of facing Omega and appeared to even have him pinned, but the presence of the AOD near ring-side, pacing like caged animals clearly unnerved the official. When the match had ended, with fans chanting "Match of the Year", Kenny was victorious, but Royce had barely a second to think about his near-victory before the AOD pounced. They brutalized their former friend, not satisfied until he was covered in blood. But it was Royce who would get the last laugh, saying he accepted a tag team match against them at New Years Knockout! He acknowledged they were correct when they said he didnt have a lot of friends in the locker room and that was why he made a phone call to the one man he knew would jump at the chance to go to war - Steve Corino! The fans erupted at the announcement of the return of the King to PCW and were salivating at what could easily be among the best matches in Manitoba history - ATM & Adam Knight vs Robby Royce & Steve Corino.
