Posted on 05 Mar 2010 by c-walk -= TNA IMPACT =-= 03/04/2010 =-= Never Say Never =- -- The show opens with AJ Styles and Ric Flair. Logically, it’s never a bad move to have the TNA Heavyweight Champion start off the show, especially when Styles and Flair are in the main event on March 8th. Flair says he wants to apologize to Hulk Hogan and give him a present. I’m hoping it’s a hairpiece. Hulk comes out, along with Abyss, and Flair offers him one of his escort ladies. Considering the women look younger than Hulk’s daughter, I’m kinda relieved that he passed on the offer. Standard promo, until Bischoff comes out and books Styles to defend his title tonight against Abyss, Pope and Desmond Wolfe in a four-corners match. I don’t see Styles losing the title, but it’s still a pretty cool match. -- Desmond Wolfe cuts a great promo in the back. I really hope he gets a serious push at the heavyweight title in 2010. Oh, and his valet wants Desmond to get Hogan’s Hall of Fame ring for her. -- First match of the night is a four-way non-title tag match, with the Machine Guns vs. Generation Me vs. Beer Money vs. Morgan & Hernandez. The X-Division guys start out the match with some fast-paced action. Lots of great double-team moves. Match ends when Matt Morgan gets arrogant and then walks into The Last Call from James Storm and a roll-up by Robert Roode, giving Beer Money the win. -- Bischoff sends Sean Morley to attack Jeff Jarrett in the bathroom, in an impromptu match. After a sneak attack and beat down, Morley gets the win on the bathroom floor. -- Next up is the X-Division Champion vs. the Global Champion, Doug Williams against Rob Terry, with neither title on the line. Terry actually hits a very nice roundhouse kick, followed by a spinebuster for the win. Match lasted a couple minutes. Williams may have got in some offense, but I blinked a few times so I probably missed it. -- Kurt Ang- err, I mean, Ken Anderson is out next…dressed just like Kurt Angle. He even has a bald cap on. Anderson says he is the most injury-prone wrestler in the world… now I’m not sure if he’s talking as Angle or as himself. Angle (the real one) eventually comes out and attacks Anderson, who spits beer in Angle’s face and ends up getting the best of him again. -- Jarrett has a match against Tomko, where Tomko works over Jarrett’s injured shoulder for most of the match. Jarrett somehow gets a roll-up for the win, and Bischoff is not pleased. I’m curious as to where this Bischoff-Jarrett angle is going. It’s a pretty straightforward storyline, so I hope it has a decent pay-off in the end. -- Main event time! Wolfe vs. Pope vs. Abyss vs. Styles for the TNA Heavyweight Title. Pope is favouring his left ankle, due to the beat down he received from Flair and Styles a few weeks ago. Styles comes out with a slick robe, looking like a real champion. They are working the four-corners match with tags, which isn’t the way I prefer. But despite that, it’s a very solid match, with lots of good wrestling. Finish comes when Styles makes Pope tap out to the figure-four leg lock. After the match, Styles, Flair and Wolfe attack Pope and Abyss. Flair hits Abyss with a barbwire baseball bat, which brings out Hulk Hogan. Flair gets busted open, although that doesn’t take too much effort. I swear he could get busted open while tying up his shoelaces. Great segment to hype the tag match this Monday. --= Final Thoughts =- This episode of Impact was not the best. It wasn’t a terrible episode, but the in-ring work was lacking, overall. It did, however, hype the move to Monday nights very well. The final segment of the night was a great way to get people pumped for the main event tag match on Monday. There were a few segments that kinda dragged on. Mick Foley had a few etiquette skits that were relatively amusing, but somewhat unnecessary. -= Top 3 =- 1. AJ Styles (for successfully defending his title and cutting a good promo, too) 2. Ken Anderson (for his entertaining Angle impression) 3. Abyss (for staying by Hogan’s side, thus giving him more television exposure than he’s ever got before) That’s your Impact Analysis for the week! I will hopefully get the up-coming reviews posted more consistently, now that Impact is moving to Monday nights. It should be a great show on March 8th! There are sure to be some dam good surprises.
