Raw Trek: The Hart GenerationPosted on 02 Feb 2010
First off, the Rumble match was missing something on Sunday. I couldn't quite put my finger on it other than it felt short, and the lack of a superstar who really put in some great time in that Rumble. Usually there's a star on the rise who lasts and sort of stays low profile in there as a shocker and a bit of a push but that was absent this time around. Oh well, glad that Edge won and not Cena, definitely a huge curveball in plans for Mania. Onto Raw! They kick it off with Edge and rightfully so! Fans were torn between cheering and booing the man and rightfully so. He's been one of the top heels on SmackDown and Raw for the past 3 years and WWE expects them to just cheer him because he was gone for 6 months? He teased coming to Raw but said he would wait until the Elimination Chamber to decide. I think he should've just let it in the open saying he's not sure yet. Then let him jump around from show to show teasing who he's going to challenge. But, Sheamus comes out and gets the crowd cheering for Edge thankfully and ends with a spear and Edge celebrating. Up next is Cody Rhodes Vs. John Cena. If this wasn't obvious who was going to win, then I'm not sure where your head is at. Cena clearly over and I think the gap of Cody's career is closing shortly. Maybe to ECW? By the way, it's great that they jumped right into the Chamber and is treating it like it's everyone's last chance to get to the main event of WrestleMania! They only have 3 weeks to sell this pay-per-view and they did a great job in establishing the main event. They show the screwjob in a package followed by an interview with Vince, great addition to the show! It's the little things like this which give the show a much greater flow and gets you that much more excited for whenever Bret shows up. Triple H Vs. Jack Swagger was another very predictable match but I'm pleased with how much Hunter put over Swagger in the match. It was good and lately Swagger's been having big matches on Raw. Maybe there'th hope after all! William Shatner then does a hilarious bit, singing WWE Theme songs. Shawn Michaels' was the funniest and they should've saved it for the end. Still...funny. Then we see Shawn backstage and Triple H giving him a pep talk. Shawn's character development has been great over this thing as pointed out, they're really hyping up the chase for The Undertaker and it's been gold. Shawn Michaels Vs. Randy Orton: A solid match and the first unpredictable match of the night. Lots of back and forth action and a great one. Orton wins and is back in the chase for the title, Michaels throws a bit of a fit in the ring. I expect him to be making a scene on SmackDown soon... Mark Henry Vs. Ted Dibiase was good for what it was. Ted's really come together as a performer and good to see him win this one. Hopefully we'll get a huge development now at the Elimination Chamber with both Orton and Ted in it. Maryse/Gail Kim promo: Meh. No title match actually made me scratch my head a bit, wasn't it advertised? Next is Shatner along with Miz/Show and CM Punk wit the SES. Sorta glad but odd that Punk shows up after the Rumble. He had a memorable performance but he's from SmackDown. Shatner books Miz/Big Show Vs. SES Vs. DX for the Tag Titles next week. Cool. I actually am not sure what to think of this one. Big Show Vs. Kofi Kingston. Another unpredictable match as WWE usually loves sticking big men in the Chamber match. Glad to see Kofi get the win though in another decent match. And of course...glad they're still dragging out the Miz/MVP feud. It's been hit or miss but it's been all good for The Miz. I'd love to see them carry it to WrestleMania in a big blowoff match if they could but maybe Miz could have a n opponent who gives him a big rub? Bret Hart comes to the ring and gets to speak his mind. Vince follows. A great emotional back and forth here. Very realistic but still in character. Eventually Vince trash talks about Bret's dad which leads Bret to kick Vince in the gut and then starts fighting like a hockey player. Just then, Batista comes in and takes out Bret. Finishing off with Vince spitting in Bret's face was perfect. Some people may complain but I think it's great and classic McMahon. Always having a back-up plan is just his character's nature and having Batista run in was it. I'm still hoping for Vince Vs Bret and hope they're just not in the corners of Batista/Cena. Or a tag match, eww. Those matches need to be separate. Overall, a much better Raw than usual and am getting pumped for WrestleMania. Could be one of the most stacked Mania cards in recent memory if all the cards play out right. Anyone else getting excited for Mania? Content Management Powered by CuteNews
